Christmas Music
Christmas themes have long been an inspiration to artists, writers, and weavers of folklore. Radio and television have aggressively pursued entertainment and ratings through their cultivation of Christmas themes. Many fictional Christmas stories capture the spirit of Christmas in a modern-day fairy tale, often with heart-touching stories of a Christmas miracle. Several have become part of the Christmas tradition in their countries of origin. Tchaikovsky's The Nutcracker ballet, for example, tells of a Christmas ornament come to life in a young Russian girl's dream.
Many radio stations begin to add Christmas songs to their rotation
in late November, and often switch to all-Christmas programming for the morning
of December 25th. A few stations switch to all-Christmas music for the entire
season (some beginning as early as mid-November); programmers believe that at
least some listeners who are attracted by the Christmas music will remain loyal
listeners when the station reverts to its standard format on Boxing Day. Radio
stations also broadcast classical music, such as the Hallelujah chorus from
Handel's Messiah. Among other classical pieces inspired by Christmas are the
Nutcracker Suite, adapted from Tchaikovsky's ballet score, and Johann Sebastian
Bach's Christmas Oratorio.
Christmas songs normally sung during the
Christmas period usually has some Christmas or winter related theme. If the
song is traditional, or specifically has a religious content, then it is often
called a Christmas carol, though some might also be called Christmas hymns.
The tradition of Christmas carols goes back as far as the thirteenth
century, although carols were originally communal songs sung during
celebrations like harvesttide as well as Christmas. It was only later that
carols began to be sung in church, and to be specifically associated with
Christmas.
Some songs, such as White Christmas, are songs which have
become popular over the Christmas period, and often songs are introduced in
films, specifically for Christmas. Such
songs are not strictly Christmas carols. Some songs have little relationship to
Christmas, but are hyped up over the period.

Christmas Carols - Tradition or
Religion?
It is interesting to note that carols had nothing to do with
the birth of Christ in the past. They were actually secular dances which used

Buying a Guitar for Christmas for the
Experienced Guitarist
Sure, getting a guitar pack for a beginner is
certainly more than acceptable. The goal in the beginning is to just get
started. But for experienced guitar players, purchasing a new guitar is a
delicate process. They know what sound they like. They know how they like the
strings and neck to feel. They will want a guitar that they feel bonded to.
